Self Evaluation

Our final magazine cover has turned out to be successful although we had a lot of problems, however there is a lot of changes from the design template we made. The reason we made those changes was based on the peer assessment of our template, one of the main criticisms of our original design was that there wasnt as much content to create a good front page for a front cover. After taking this into consideration me and Izzie decided to increase the content of text on the front cover, this would make the magazine more visually appealing but would also make the magazine less cramped.

In addition to this we also changed the image layout on the page, this is because we wanted our main imgae as the background, and have 2 images aswell on the front. We had to move certain picture around to ensure that it didnt cover up the main image and that it should be clear which image is the main image. So instead of having 2 images at the bottom the page we decided to move them to either side of the main image to ensure that it could be clearly seen. This turned out to be a success as it resulted in the front cover becoming more professional and less cluttered.
We then had to come to an agreement of what the main image could have been of and what text should go with it, from our format research we new that a lot of magazines used text and strap lines that were specific to the school to advertise it, this would appeal to the parents aswell as the students. For this reason we used the past events of GCSE's results and recent art exhibitons to show the schools success in different areasof the school, this is something that would attract the parents as they would see how the school are interested in the students fulfilling their time at the misbourne and thier potential that they could reach. To emphasise this and make our front cover more effective we used a school strapline along with the main image to because it comes directly for the students, this makes the article relatable and ensures the parents that it is something the students enjoy.

However the certains parts of our plan  we stuck with from our magazine template was the fact we allowed two lines for a masthead to sit rather than the normal one of one, which was something that we had good amount  positive feedback from. We also thought that the masthead was really engaging for the student and is something that defies convention of a typical school front cover. And we also stuck with having the main image as our whole background and having everything sitting on top of the main image.

Peer Assessment

Looking over Henry and Izzies design we have discovered many successful features, the use of space has been used well with a balance of text and images, not being too overcrowded. The overlapping of the logo is unqiue and challenges the norm.

The design has quite a modern feel to it and tends to stray away fell the norm, the design is adventurous and bold. The overlapping of texts and pictures suggests it's aimed at children however the contents of the page also suggests it could be for parents to. To improve their page they could change the arrangement of pictures so that they have a more formal layout.

Self assessment of our Newsletter design

Self Assessment - Our design for a front cover of a magazine shows a fair bit of development of current ones as we have taken current newsletters and magazine's and have tried to make ours different and stand out from the rest. We have done this by splitting out mast head into two parts one on top of the other, this makes ours different to others as the normal mast head is seen to be one single line across the top of the page. Our pictures used a on opposite sides in the page to maximise space for our main Image. Our main image will make our page stand out because it will be the whole front cover sand be used as a background to the page. As well as this we have decided to out the school slogan at the bottom if the page as we think that it will get seen more because when turning a page it tends To be turned from the bottom.
Our cover will be aimed at those who are currently members of the school or are potential school attenders. We have designed the cover to be eye catching for both parents and children. The text and news section will be specifically aimed at the parents were as our pictures and events page will be aimed more at the children. The research we had found gave us the ideas to create a more detailed front cover, and found out what things were the norm. We used this to ensure that we made ours different so that it stands our from the crowd!

Our magazine front cover draft

This is a first draft of the mgazine cover i am working on Izzie Hoskins. The cover would be aimed at parents of the school and current pupils so that they can look at what has happened and whats new in the school. This design may however change over time as we will gain various feedback from class mates and teachers and change to ensure it is appealing to students and adults. The text will be used to showcase important stories and events that will be included in the. The images will also show the reader of certain events that happened over the years.

This is the contents page mock up of the magazine.

Magazine Analysis 3

Audience - In my oppinion its hard to say who the magazine is aimed for when it comes to picking a gender as it is diverse with the various colours and headlines, however it is obvious that this magazine is aimed for year 11 students as it talks about that years group gcse results aswell as their prom and tips on how to cope with exams.

Main Image - When it comes to images there is one main image which is considerately larger that the other pictures which makes it stand ot from the rest. The picture is of a school girl who looks like someone that typically 'likes' school, there is also 3 small snapshots of pictures from inside the magazine which are pictures from a prom focusing on just girls, this could also add more reasoning to the fact it could be aimed specifically at girls. The cover also contains short stories of what you might expect to be inside the magazine.

Mast Head -  The mast head 'school weekly' doesnt link to any school and with no crest you are unable to tie it down with an individual school and so could be used for any school. The mast head doesnt show much about the school inwhich it is from and s written in normal text which doesnt make it stand out despite the fact it is written in large red writing.

Text - The text on this cover is written in the same font. The cover fairly plain it doesnt have any striking images and when it comes to colours as it consits of red, blue and a baigey colour (the main colour/background however, the differentiating colours between sub title and and the text underneath means that you can easily tell the difference between the different stories which means the layout is set out perfectly.

School Magazine analysis 2

Audience - The Audience of this magazine is aimed at the parents of the school or for potential parents of pupils that are willing to attend the school. In sight of this, however, it could be for current pupils aswell due to the fact its got a picture of a recent trip. The colour as well could be an a point of intrest from children as it is bright and eye catching. Being a private school the newsletter could also be a selling point for future parents of puils wishing to attend.  The professional looking design of the newsletter is a result of the fact that the newsletter is for a private school and needs to look profesional to potential pupils and parents in order to impress the parents who are willing to send their children to the school.

Masthead - The mast head of this magazine shows the schools creast and slogan ''Realising you're daughters potential''. The way the the slogan is written is in a formal text suggesting the school is proud of what they can achieve. It has been given alot aspace at the top of the page with emphasises its postion on the page and draws attention to it

Main Image - The main image of this magazine is that of a group of children from the school that are all wearing the schools fleaces, which represents thier school in a foreign country. The image also displays the oportunities that your child can experience whilst spending thier time at this school.

Text - The cover contains a fairly small amount of text, and only really focuses on the schools name and slogan, to give the newsletter the professional appearance that it is trying to portray to its target audience. Instead of using text to put accross information to its readers, the newsletter focuses on using images showing recent events and activities at the school. The main image shows the students in China, obviously on a school trip. This gives the connotations that the trip will be discussed inside the newsletter as it is the most prominent feature on the cover. The other images however fail to give this impression to the reader as they are less prominent and are seemingly about random subjects. The only other text that features on the cover is the newsletters date and issue number keeping with the minimal amount of text used on the cover.

Welcome To My AS Media blog! 1st Magazine analysis

Audience – The Target audience for this magazine would be parents of current pupil or of potential new pupils attending the school. The fact that it is very dull and not very interesting suggests that it would appeal more to an adult rather than a child. The images of princess Anne suggests that it would be a fairly wealthy school and so would appeal more to those in the higher/middle classes of society that are able to afford an education of this sort.

Main Image – The main Image of this Magazine is a picture of Princess Anne. The Image would make people interested in the school realise that it is a good school due to the fact that a member of royalty has visited the school, however, you would normally expect the main image

Mast Head – The mast head covers most of the page and although this makes it stand out it is very dull and simple. The text is written in a standard font and isnt very attractive. The crest of the shcool is very small and doesnt stand out from the rest of the front page. With barely any space used in the middle however it does attract the eye to look in the middle of the page at the crest.
